AJ WEBER − THE ARTIST
AJ Weber was born 29th November 1969 in Cochem, Germany. He grew up in Ellenz by the Mosel-River. AJ spent his childhood at the catholic boarding school "Hermann Josef Kolleg Steinfeld", where he achieved his vocational diploma. Afterwards he decided to train at the parental business, to become a Hotel Manager. Through the traineeship, he has worked in England, Leicester at the Hotel Three Swans. Furthermore he became a certified bartender, while working and studying in Altöttingen, Germany. He has worked at the parental Hotel "Ellenzer Goldbäumchen" as an F&B Manager for the next 10 years. Over the years, the artist grew in him. AJ was painting by himself and wanted to see the big, wide world. He traveled to the United States and lived there for approximately three months. There, he was able to open his mind to collect new impressions. As soon as he came home, all the absorbed effects broke out of him. AJ let out his creativity and the linens filled up with colors and emotions. He has finally found his purpose- the ART. Places like Italy, Spain, France and more parts of the USA let the art shine in him. He took art-courses at the European academy of modern art in Trier, Germany. As an exchange student he studied at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska. Furthermore AJ learned more about art, while studying at the art school in Wiesbaden. From 2003 until 2006 he lived in the USA, where he had his art studio at the Arts Incubator in Kansas City, MO. Back in Germany he went to the capital Berlin and started a new phase in his creative development. The new energy affected him to open up his own art gallery FORMA:T in Cologne.

AJ'S ART
Many of AJ Weber's works are predominantly dark and seem frightening on the first glance. However, looking at his paintings more closely or over a longer period of time, you'll always discover shapes and figures which previously remained covert. His works, focused on faces, depict how the artist perceives mankind.
Sometimes we see happy multicolored women and laughing characters, but then we also see grief and malice. AJ Weber combines signs and symbols which melt into one whole and lead to an unexpected result. Whenever he faces a blank canvas, his art burst out of him without contemplating the results. His art can be described as abstract and contemporary. AJ's tools include needles, putty knives, brushes, pencils and, of course, his hands which enable him to feel his art. Most of the time, he uses whatever he can find, amongst other things: acrylic and oil, varnish, coal and chalk.
AJ's works are characterized by a very special style which features synthetic drawing.
Here, the simple, meaningless part of an object gains a surprising formal autonomy and enters a new dimension, in an area of existence yet to be explored. Weber takes the shape of an accidentally chosen object and draws part of it onto his canvas. Then, he looks somewhere else and performs the same procedure again. You could say his eyes become his hands. By putting these randomly selected outlines together, he has created an artificial object.
It's about forgetting the function, being and status of the material visible, grasping the pure shapes in relation to parts of other shapes, with the intent to consciously create immaterial worlds, emotions and entities, visible and perceptible for everybody.
